This week's teaching is
brought to you from: Diego
Diego’s Destination
Determination
Diego (on the right), a scrappy, tough,
yet, ridiculously cute and sweet Chihuahua mix found his way through
a long, difficult journey to the home of his human partner,
Pam. From what he
shared with me, Diego survived horrible abuse and abandonment.
Ironically, he incurred his most serious injury being hit by a
car, an event that led to his rescue by a local
shelter where he met his chosen person. Pam contacted me for a
reading because, although she loved Diego and felt, as with all Soul
Contracts, that they were supposed to be together, he was not
blending in well in her household or, more importantly, with her dog
Ivy. Not only that,
Diego seemed to want things that Pam’s safe, nurturing,
any-dog-would-be-lucky-to-live-there home could not provide. Diego wanted tons of room to
run, as he frequently reminded Pam by taking off any chance he
could. Also, he loved
to snuggle under the covers at night, making Pam boiling hot and
unable to sleep, and her fury friend disgruntled when she asked him
for space. All the training tricks and
psychic communication in the world could not keep him from urinating
in the house, inviting his increasingly agitated friend Ivy to do
the same.
As many of
us do in relationships, Pam tried everything in her power to
accommodate Diego. She
compromised with more cuddling and lap time, she exercised him as
much as possible, she took him out more frequently, and the list
goes on and on. We were
in contact many times to review the family’s Soul Contract and check
in with what each animal and their person needed in that
moment. For a very long
time, all parties felt they wanted to stay together and work on
different ideas for helping each other feel better. But ultimately,
their efforts were futile as there was a larger force in play. Diego continued to urinate
on Pam’s floor and belongings, while making eye contact with her,
pleading for her to pay attention to what he was desperately
communicating. Ivy
chimed in with her own counter-productive behaviors, leaving Pam
depleted and heartbroken.
What was most revealing of Diego’s contract was the
activation of his fifth chakra, the throat chakra or the area
responsible for speaking truth and trusting divine wisdom. In my mind’s eye, I could
see a yellow, murky color around this area of Diego’s body, an
indication of an energetic imbalance, and possibly a
“dis-ease”. Further
conversations with Pam revealed that Diego displayed physical
symptoms of a thyroid problem, a gland that regulates bodily
functions such as thirst, hunger, and body temperature. What an important piece of
the puzzle! Do you
remember Bonnie and her fifth chakra teaching? She courageously facilitated
healing for many beings in her life by encouraging us to always
speak the deepest truth of our hearts and be willing to, “Let go and
let God,” in life. Most medical problems are present in the
energy body and are indicative of a spiritual imbalance long before
there is evidence on medical tests. Pam sought help from her
veterinarian, and ultimately decided to treat the problem first from
a spiritual perspective before medication, a choice that would
later facilitate relief of symptoms, healing
both herself and Diego.
Pam is a
brave and wise soul; she was willing to look at the possibility that
Diego would be happier with someone else. She had exhausted all
reasonable options to help him and her only choice was to ask him if
he was still happy living with her. I confirmed in my reading
that although her four-legged friend loved her dearly, he desired to
move on. It was a sad,
yet deeply true, realization that Pam was ready for. Many of us find it difficult
to let go when fear of the unknown is so great. Countless questions tortured
Pam throughout sleepless nights. Would he find the right
home? Could she have done something differently for him to
stay? Was she a
horrible person for asking a dog to leave that had already been
abandoned? Perhaps we have all asked similar questions, and many
more, when determining when it’s time to move on from
relationship.
From what
the animals have taught me, they understand the importance of
letting go, the necessity of it in order to fully grow and realize
our potential. Diego
needed to find Pam to recover, heal, and receive love, but only for
a short time. He got
back on his feet, and once there, he realized that he needed more
than just a really great home with a giving and devoted partner; he
needed the right kind of partner. As with all Contracts,
Diego’s decision benefited her growth, too. When right relationship is
in play, and all are speaking their truth, this can only be the
case. Pam grew
immensely by admitting that the situation was not working for her,
either. She allowed
herself the freedom to be who she was, and say who she wasn’t. She loved herself more
deeply, and Diego had gifted her that. Pam was willing to be the
one step in the journey, versus holding on too tightly to being the
destination.
The truth
is that there is only one destination we are all seeking: pure and
perfect Love.
Courageously opening your heart, speaking your truth, and
then letting go, will help you get closer to this experience, a
state that can only come from within. Pam and Diego bravely dove
into these uncharted waters only to find a healing, freeing
place. Where might your
heart be ready to take the leap?
